Build your own Web2.0 site (part 5 ) - Installing Joomla
Written by William
Sunday, 04 March 2007

Finally the Joomla files are all on the server. A couple of coffee's died during that process! So now we run the joomla install code and setup the sites Joomla data base.

You probably have heard that Joomla is a CMS (Content Management System). But what does that mean?. Simply put its a web site with a PHP front end and MySQL data base backend. Doesn't sound that simple does it. Well it is, the content or words on the web pages, music, videos etc are store or linked to in the data base and the PHP code simply reads the data from the data base and builds fancy web pages around it using both HTML and CSS code. Sound better - NO, Ok then lets just get on with it.

Watch the video it won't talk about all the code stuff but it will show you how to install Joomla. Here it is : Upload Joomla

Well we have downloaded Joomla and setup the FTP application to talk to our site so the next thing to do is load Joomla base file onto our hosting server.

This next Video runs though the unzip and load process. The Joomla base files are unzipped onto our local machine and then uploaded to the remote host server. Its pretty boring but a very neseccary step.

So watch the video: Upload Joomla
